It seems like every day we have a new revelation to add to George Santos’s laundry list of shady behavior. Which means Kevin McCarthy should be nervous about the line he drew in the sand with reporters last week. When pressed about his continued support for Santos, McCarthy stated that if the House Ethics Committee discovers that Santos broke the law, then they will remove him. So imagine our surprise when not three days later, reports surfaced that Santos’s 2020 campaign made up donors, fabricated their names and addresses, and attributed thousands of dollars in contributions to them. Santos’s mountain of lies can be silly at times, like lying about playing volleyball at a college he never attended. But lying about who your campaign contributions came from is a crime, and we’re not going to let MAGA Republicans pretend it isn’t. Where did Santos’ secret campaign war chest really come from? Corporations? Big-dollar donors? Investors he scammed? An unsuspecting elderly man’s checking account in Brazil? We just don’t know. But we deserve some answers. This may be an extreme example, but this is exactly what billionaires and corporate donors want: corrupt and desperate politicians like Santos willing to take their money, push their agenda, and escape scrutiny. Removing himself from committees is not enough. We need accountability and action, and that means launching a full investigation into his wrong doing. Thanks for all that you do. Sami and Chloe |
