John -
This morning, a disreputable rightwing media outlet, The Washington Free Beacon , published a hit piece [[link removed]] attempting to undermine our work and other pro-peace and pro-human rights organizations like J Street and Human Rights Watch.
While their report grasps at some serious straws to try to defame us, I did want to reach out because I think it demonstrates what is really happening with the recent attacks and divisions sowed within our community – and who are the actors that actually stand to benefit.
The Free Beacon is financed by the billionaire Paul Singer – who also funds hawkish organizations like the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, the Institute for the Study of War, and AIPAC – and is part of a far right network that has been pushing for war and crippling, inhumane sanctions against ordinary Iranians for years.
In their latest attack, they try to claim it is a scandal for pro-peace advocates and experts to advocate for non-military solutions and policies that treat the Iranian people as actual human beings rather than pawns on a chessboard. And since we refuse to support their pro-war, pro-sanctions agenda, they attempt to weaponize human rights and the struggle of the Iranian people to try to attack us.
This crowd has been salivating at the prospect of exploiting the protests in Iran and the Iranian people's demands for freedom and dignity to advance their own agenda. They want to remove democratic, pro-peace organizations from the political playing field so that they can finally have a clear path to war.
That's not going to happen.
Let me be clear: we will never cease advocating for peace and to prevent war. And we will always support democracy – whether it is Iranians fighting for self-determination in Iran or upholding democracy and civil rights here at home.
But unlike our opponents, we don't have billionaire financiers [[link removed]] or foreign state actors on our side. We are a grassroots organization that is only as powerful as those who support us.
Will you send a powerful message to those attempting to cancel pro-peace organizations like ours that we will not back down – and help us ensure we have the resources to win this battle so peace can prevail?

Unfortunately, John, attacks like this from bad actors will keep coming. That's politics these days, especially on the issues that matter most. But with your continued commitment and support, truth and integrity will prevail.
Thank you,
Jamal Abdi
