John,
Right now, Social Security Works and our coalition partners, including Indivisible, PCCC and MoveOn.org, are whipping members of Congress to make a public pledge: Never cut Social Security and Medicare.
Why is this important? Because Republicans are on the record demanding Social Security cuts in exchange for agreeing to increase the debt ceiling.
Here’s how you can help: Sign our petition urging your members of Congress in the House and Senate to take the simple pledge:
Here is the pledge we want every member of Congress to sign:
“I promise to never vote to cut Social Security or Medicare under any circumstances.”
Add your name today to demand that your members of Congress take action!
Your signature makes our efforts on Capitol Hill stronger. We’re reporting to offices who are on the fence and letting them know how many of their constituents are demanding that they take action.
Republicans are feeling the heat―they’re lying and pretending that no one on their side of the aisle has threatened to cut Social Security or Medicare. It’s not true, as this Washington Post headline from last week can attest:
Senator John Thune, Mitch McConnell’s #2 in the Senate, joined Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s call pre-election to hold the debt ceiling hostage for cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Now, they’re backing off that call and are discussing fast-tracked commissions that will allow them to cut Social Security without Republican fingerprints.
We’re not fooled. A cut is a cut is a cut, whether it comes through a commission or through a hostage negotiation. The only way to win this game is not to play. That means we need you to take action.
Sign now: Demand your member of Congress take the pledge today!
Thanks,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
