There’s been a growing body of evidence going all the way back to the 1970s that gas stoves are bad for your health – and now another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. A new peer-reviewed study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that in the U.S., 1 in 8 cases of childhood asthma is caused by gas stoves – a startling stat that’s on par with the risks posed by secondhand smoke.

Add your name to the petition and demand U.S. regulators to protect children from gas stove pollution.

The fossil fuel industry has known for decades that gas stoves emit dangerous levels of formaldehyde, methane, nitrogen oxides, and other pollutants – it just hasn’t cared. Even in the face of this latest research, it’s still pushing to add gas hook ups to new buildings and doom another generation of children to asthma and poor lung health.

Enough.

Nearly 100 cities across North America – as well as the state of Washington, the state of California and maybe soon the state of New York – are working on or have already passed policies to electrify new and existing buildings in order to protect their residents and the climate. Now it’s time for the federal government to get on board.
