AUBURN OPENS 48-HOUR WARMING CENTER   City of Auburn, Maine. Upcoming Events   NEWS FROM AUBURN, MAINE   AUBURN OPENS 48-HOUR WARMING CENTER Community partners unite to help keep residents safe from dangerously cold weather.   The City of Auburn will open a 48-hour warming shelter to help protect residents from the dangerously cold temperatures that are expected on Friday and Saturday. The city has partnered with the Auburn Housing Authority to stand up the warming center, which will be located at the AHA’s Family Development Center on Valerie Circle. The center will open at noon on Friday, February 3 and will remain open – including overnights – until noon on Sunday, February 5. Free transportation to the warming center will be available through the YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston. The pick-up location will be the First Universalist Church of Auburn, located at 169 Pleasant Street. Pick-up times will be at 4:00PM Friday, 10:00AM Saturday, and 3:00PM Saturday. The center will also be easily accessible via the citylink bus service, which has stops nearby. Auburn's Community Development team and the Immigrant Resource Center of Maine will staff the center, and security will be on-site. Organizers also plan to provide food for those who use the warming center.
