2023 is underway, and we have no time to waste! With major social, environmental and economic issues threatening to halt our progress, we must band together -- now more than ever -- to uplift, inform and support each other in our individual and joint goals.

Together, we can make an impact in our communities, within our organizations, with our employees, and at the state and federal levels to advance a just and sustainable economy that benefits all -- people and planet. Thank you for your continued support of the American Sustainable Business Network. We look forward strengthening our relationship with members, partners, business leaders, investors and allies across the nation as we build a more equitable economy.
ASBN AND PARTNERS

Building a Community-Based Ecosystem for Manufacturing Webinar
ASBN is excited to partner with Manufacturing Renaissance and ReImagine Appalachia for Building a Community-Based Ecosystem for Manufacturing ([link removed]) , which will highlight new opportunities for revitalizing our economy through manufacturing. New manufacturing in the region can and should be rooted in the local community, include strong rights for workers, and use ownership models that build local equity. On February 9th, we will discuss regional principles for manufacturing in the region including strategic vision, identify its component parts, and develop follow up actions to help build this work in Appalachia. We are honored to work with these groups which have been leading this conversation in our nation for years. Join us ([link removed]) as we learn from their experience and outline next steps.

Food Not Feed Summit
We are just days away from the 2023 Food Not Feed Summit co-hosted by ASBN and more than two dozen allied organizations. February 7-8, we’re joining together with a coalition of people from different backgrounds—farmers, ranchers, animal welfare advocates, conservationists, and health & nutrition advocates—to head to Washington and fight for a Farm Bill that prioritizes healthy food for Americans, not feed for multinational livestock operations. Attendees can expect to convene with experts and advocates, attend panels featuring prominent speakers who will lift up and highlight the objective of transforming our food system, and learn how to educate our Senators and Representatives for a better Farm Bill. To learn more and register, visit Food Not Feed Summit ([link removed]) .
Business Coalitions in Brief to Court: OSHA is Good for Small Businesses’ Bottom Lines and their Employees
Business coalitions Main Street Alliance and the American Sustainable Business Network, represented by Democracy Forward, recently submitted a friend of the court brief ([link removed]) in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The brief urges the court to uphold a district court decision rejecting an effort by a Waterville, OH-based company to gut the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s authority to set and enforce worker safety standards by declaring the bipartisan Occupational Safety and Health Act unconstitutional.

“ASBN and the businesses throughout our network believe that OSHA plays an important role in setting and enforcing workplace safety regulations which is crucial for all businesses and their workers. With the OSHA baseline of standards we can ensure a healthy workforce which builds a robust economy that works for all,” said David Levine, President and Co-Founder at ASBN. As the brief explains, OSHA’s permanent safety standards are not only constitutional and necessary, they are good for the bottom lines of small businesses and their employees.

American Sustainable Business Network celebrates EPA’s Final Determination Report which prohibits and restricts large-scale mining at Bristol Bay

The Environmental Protection Agency recently finalized 404© Clean Water Act protections that will stop the proposed Pebble Mine from being built at the Headwaters of Bristol Bay -- approximately 200 miles southwest of Anchorage, AK. The act bans the disposal of mine waste in part of the bay’s watershed. The streams in the watershed are crucial breeding grounds for salmon, a source for the economy of the surrounding communities.

ASBN and BCCA ([link removed]) are honored to work with Businesses for Bristol Bay in advocacy to protect Bristol Bay. We have stood with the local communities and businesses in opposition to Pebble Mine and commend the EPA for recognizing Bristol Bay as an exceptional place deserving of exceptional protection while restoring science and public trust in the 404© process. “Since BCCA's inception, permanent protections for Bristol Bay have been at the forefront of our policy objectives," said Ephraim Froehlich, Alaska and Pacific Northwest Policy Coordinator at BCCA. "Our alliance of businesses and Tribes have prioritized outcomes that uplift local Indigenous voices – this is an example of the Biden Administration taking that same tack and we applaud this announcement and thank the Administration for listening to the people of Bristol Bay."

ASBN’s companies and organizations support final 404© Clean Water Act protections that advance the long-term economic health of our country and defend thousands of renewable American jobs. The EPA’s determination ensures that the people of Bristol Bay can live without the Pebble Mine overshadowing their future.
