Dear AFGE Activists,
Each February we recognize Black History Month as a time to honor Black culture, community, and contributions throughout American history. This year’s national theme is “Black Resistance,” which centers the myriad ways Black Americans have fought historic and ongoing oppression in all forms.
On behalf of WFP and AFGE B.L.A.C.K., I invite you to celebrate Black History Month and Black resistance by joining us for one of our virtual programs this month.
Kick off Black History Month at our virtual workshop: History of Black Labor in the U.S. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 7:30-9pm ET to learn more about the role Black labor has played throughout American history, including the labor movement, civil rights movement, and the fight for justice today.
Join us on the following Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 7:30-9pm ET for our Reclaiming MLK Jr. virtual panel where we look at Martin Luther King Jr. through his own words to better understand his teachings on labor, democracy, resistance, and more.
Finally, join us as we continue to discuss race, policing, protest, and unionism at our Conversation with Black AFGE Law Enforcement on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 8-9pm ET.
