Today marks an important day for Black Americans. Not only does February 1st signify the beginning of Black History Month, but it is also the anniversary of President Lincoln signing a resolution that would become the 13th Amendment, outlawing slavery in the US. Today, we honor the work of President Lincoln and all those who have fought for the equal rights they deserve.
To build the future, we have to look to the past.
Our past doesn’t define us. Instead, it teaches us about how far we’ve come and how much further we can go.
This Black History Month, I choose to honor the great men and women of our past, those who taught us that the status quo can change if we put in the work and take risks required to leave a lasting legacy.
To set the table for those that COME AFTER us…
We need to honor those who came before us…
Those who RISKED THINKING for themselves.
Those who broke convention.
Those who DARED TO FAIL GREATLY ONLY TO ACHIEVE MORE.
The legacy of those men and women from our past shapes the opportunities we can leave for the future. I can’t thank them enough.
Let us celebrate our future by reflecting on the giants of our past.
