We can’t let others whitewash history

It’s the first day of Black History Month, the time our nation sets aside to focus on Black history, Black leaders, and those in the Black community who continue to make history today.
We hope you take time this month to educate yourself on the history of Arizona’s Black leaders and community. We hope you also take time this month to join us in pushing back against the whitewashing of Black history that is currently surging through the GOP.
The GOP launched baseless attacks on Critical Race Theory – a college-level theory that has never been taught in K-12 schools – to cover up attacks on teaching about Black history and race. And it’s already becoming a reality – we’ve seen a literal rejection of Black history and studies in Florida.
It’s clear we must continue to teach, learn and promote Black history this month and beyond.
Here in Arizona, we promise to fight back against these baseless, pointed attacks and continue to work to build an Arizona for everyone. We hope you join us in these efforts and for the progress we still need to make to achieve that goal.
