Start of Year Appeal - Day 10

A huge “Thank You” to every single one of you who has contributed to SPUC’s New Year appeal this month.

An amazing £82,900.77 has been raised so far to protect unborn babies this year.

The money will fund a range of crucial activities which must be implemented immediately if we are to achieve our 4 Key Aims for 2023:

1. DEFEND pro-life speech

How can we make abortion unthinkable if we are not allowed to talk about it? The pro-life movement is on the precipice between life and death here – and only SPUC is in a position to defend our rights.

2. BLOCK efforts to introduce assisted suicide

International euthanasia activists are using the UK's devolved administrations as guinea pigs to push their deadly agenda across the whole country.

3. RAISE awareness of the harm being done to women by abortion

The Abortion Empire and their hangers-on are trying to claim that we are making up the extent of this problem. This disgusting coercion-denial is insulting to women and kills innocent babies.

3. EXPAND pro-life outreach to the general public

Winning hearts and minds - especially of the young - is a battle that we must win. As the avenues start to close due to woke cancel-culture, it's vital that we push forward now.

WE MUST RAISE ANOTHER £17,099.23 to get over the line and help secure these vital Campaigns + Projects.

If everyone reading this email who has yet to give to the appeal donates just £10 TODAY – we will be home and dry.

John Deighan, Chief Executive.

Dear Pro-life Friend,

How have your resolutions been going?

Many resolutions get broken. Often they get broken because we try to do them alone – without our family, friends, or God.

But SPUC’s New Year’s resolutions are too important to break. Too much is at stake.

As I share with you SPUC’s 4 New Year’s resolutions, I hope that you will consider making a donation to projects which will be impossible without you.

As the world’s first pro-life campaigning organisation, we have always depended on YOU for support.

Babies' lives hang in the balance.

The 4 Key Resolutions are:

1. DEFEND pro-life speech

SPUC is calling for legal protections for pro-lifers in the UK.

We have been supporting moves to
protect pro-life students in the Freedom of Speech Bill – which is still before Parliament.

But last autumn, MPs approved an amendment to the Public Order Bill which denies women eleventh-hour help at UK abortion facilities.

  • Anyone entering a 150-metre “censorship” zone and offering a woman support to keep her baby could face up to 2 years in prison.

This shocking development brings home the importance of building a strong lobbying presence at our UK Parliaments. SPUC has recently hired two new parliamentary lobbyists to represent you at Westminster.

It’s vital that politicians are fully briefed on
the grave dangers that any prospective legislation may pose to unborn babies and their mothers — BEFORE they come to a vote.

Things have moved more rapidly than anyone expected. And elsewhere we are hearing rumblings about introducing an actual “human right to abortion” into UK law.

How can we make abortion unthinkable if we’re not allowed to even talk about it?

And how much harder will it be to  fight against abortion if it is recognised as a human right?

ACTION: We have constructed high-tech tools on our website, allowing supporters to write to members of the House of Lords.

We are also launching a Scottish campaign against Gillian Mackay MSP’s attempts to introduce buffer zones.

In the past, these campaigns have been highly effective against other such attempts.

SPUC is committed to defending the rights of the unborn AND assembly for pro-lifers, and so in addition to our lobbyists I am keen to:

  • Mobilise our unstoppable supporters at a grassroots level, to support the vital work of staff at Holyrood, Westminster, Stormont and elsewhere.

Estimated expenditure (Holyrood & Westminster): £110,000

2. BLOCK efforts to introduce assisted suicide law

Above: The “Sarco Pod” developed by Nitschke. CC BY-SA 4.0
There are currently consultations on legalising state-sponsored death on Jersey and the Isle of Man. There is also a serious threat in Scotland, where Liam McArthur's Assisted Dying Bill will be debated soon.

International euthanasia activists are using these devolved administrations as guinea pigs to push their deadly agenda across Britain.

If assisted suicide is legalised in any part of the UK, it will have massive repercussions for the whole country.

In addition to these threats, the Health and Social Care Select Committee in Westminster has launched a consultation on assisted suicide.

ACTION: Mobilise SPUC’s network of grassroots branches and activists, and brief media and politicians against the McArthur Bill.

We have produced a new briefing on the changes in the law and launched a new website to help supporters.

We must send a strong message to MPs that assisted suicide is a dangerous and unethical practice that must never be legalised in any part of the UK.

When SPUC writes consultation guides, we want to empower you to answer in your own words.

Stock responses from other organisations are all very well, but the consultors notice, and group these replies together. SPUC helps thousands of pro-lifers across the UK to find their own voice.

We now have initiated a truly massive campaign to mobilise our nationwide network of grassroot supporters. An enormous leaflet drop will warn the Scottish public about the dire situation that they are facing.

Estimated expenditure: £11,000

3. Raise awareness of the HARM being done to women by abortion
The latest official statistics show that the use of medical abortion pills (as opposed to surgery) has doubled since 2010 and now accounts for 85% of all abortions in England and Wales (it’s 97% in Scotland).

Yet a Finnish study of 42,600 patients found that abortion pills lead to as many as 4 times more serious complications than surgical abortions. All abortions are wrong – but are women being warned about the danger of these pills to their own health?

Coercion of all types is an enormous problem too.  A World Health Organisation multi-country study found that women with a history of domestic abuse were almost three times more at risk of abortion.

This is not what people think of when they talk about being “pro-choice.” It’s vital that we put this ugly reality at the forefront of people’s minds and change the way people think about abortion.

The other side know it, and are terrified – and that’s why they trying to claim that we have just invented the idea of abortion coercion.

Take a look at this reprehensibly reckless letter published in the Scottish Herald:
The hideousness of coercion-denial cannot be understated. Coercion-denial enables abusers. Coercion-denial shames women. Coercion-denial props up a multi-million-dollar commercial abortion industry.

But most importantly of all:
coercion-denial kills innocent babies. And SPUC will not let the the apologists and zealots of the Abortion Empire go unanswered.

For all these reasons and more, it is vital that we support victims of abortion coercion in their fight for justice.

And it’s just as vital that we call on the Government to take action to end this abhorrent practice and ensure that no other babies are lost to this cold-hearted coercion.

ACTIONAs you may know, we have committed to helping a brave survivor of abortion coercion called “Lydia” and meeting the costs in her landmark legal battle.

Lydia is certain in her mind that she was coerced, and explained to us that she was pressurised into aborting her child by her ex-boyfriend’s family – including a medical doctor.

The abortion clinic knew that she had tried to commit suicide to avoid having the abortion – and yet they killed her child anyway.

We must make abortion and abortion coercion impossible to ignore for the mainstream press and media.

Estimated expenditure: £185,000

4. EXPAND pro-life outreach to the general public

Winning hearts and minds (especially of the young) is a battle that we must win.

ACTIONIn 2023, we are committed to funding three major outreach projects:

  • Life Voice: Our ground-breaking project deploying a professional acting company to deliver pro-life drama performances, with a workshop session and lesson plans for schools.
  • 2023 Youth Conference: This will be staged in February.  Going on past years, the event will produce strong and lasting networks that help young pro-lifers get active and spread the pro-life message in their own part of the country.
  • Grassroots Training Events: This is another NEW project. SPUC staff will be travelling the length and breadth of the country training our supporters with the new activist and advocacy skills needed to win this fight.

(Our experience in 2022 was that venues will try to cancel on us at the last minute, caving in to pressure from radical Abortion Empire thugs.

But SPUC won’t be intimidated – we fight fire with fire, and push back twice as hard each time they try. We have already forced one venue not only to give us a refund, but to pay for a new venue as well.)

Estimated expenditure: £275,000

Total strategic expenditure: £581,000

If you are in a position to do so, will you give £20 today to help end DIY abortion in the UK?

Donate
This goal of £581,000, which has been updated due to urgent action against assisted suicide, is in ADDITION to the cost of running SPUC’s other work, which in 2021-2 totalled £2.75M.

Planning, preparing and executing campaigns of this magnitude is not cheap.

This is why our target for the January appeal is £100,000.

So far we have raised an amazing £82,900.77.

The cost of our ongoing legal challenge in Northern Ireland must be met too. SPUC has taken the UK Government to court to stop it from imposing an extreme abortion framework on the Province.

This autumn, Government lawyers were so shocked by our arguments that they begged for adjournment time to consider.

We cannot meet these costs without your help.

And if we do not meet these costs, babies will die.

We must raise £17,099.23
if we are to achieve these four key aims.

Will you help us?

A one-off gift – at whatever level you can afford today – will enable SPUC’s management team to sanction these crucial educational, campaigning and legal programmes that are so critical for ending abortion in the UK.

Who knows, it could be your personal contribution to this campaign which saves a precious baby’s life and spares a mother the terrible anguish of going through with an abortion.

A monthly donation by Direct Debit of £10, £15 or £25 a month is another excellent way to help this happen.

And of course, with larger gifts of £100, £500 and £1,000, more can be done to defend babies, and help to achieve SPUC’s vision of a Britain where abortion is “unthinkable” more quickly.

P.S. I hope that you can see these campaigns will help save lives, and move us a step closer to our ultimate goal of making abortion unthinkable.

The numbers involved in abortion are shocking.

Between the introduction of the abortion act and the end of 2022, we estimate that
10,040,561 innocent babies had been brutally slaughtered in this senseless frenzy of violence.

And the harm being done to women is staggering.

The gulf in financial resources between Abortion Empire Inc. and the pro-life movement is enormous.

Without the generosity of loyal supporters like you, SPUC really is powerless to act.

How much funding this month’s appeal generates will directly affect our capacity to get politicians, medical professionals, and media figures on board with the campaigns which I have outlined.

We need to take the pro-life message to those whose support is vital to ending abortion in the UK.

And this can only be done by ordinary men and women like you challenging the abortion narrative in this country.

The more money we can raise, the more can be done to change the hearts and minds of the public, and of key influencers, and bring us closer to ending the repugnant practices that cast a dark shadow of shame over our nation.
