There comes a time when nearly everyone needs time off work to recover from a serious illness, or care for a sick loved one or a new child. Unfortunately, the majority of workers in the United States can’t take time off work without risking their jobs.
It’s time that we have a system that allows Americans to still receive a portion of their salary when they need to take time off work for medical or family reasons. The United States is one of only three countries in the world that don’t require companies to give workers paid family leave. This is not a problem that should exist in one of the most prosperous nations on the planet.
When we lose people in the workforce because of inadequate family leave policies, it negatively impacts the economy as a whole. And those Americans who drop out of the workforce have a hard time re-entering.
