So we’ve met ([link removed][UNIQID]) and we’ve talked about why ids ([link removed][UNIQID]) . Now let’s talk about how we solve the problem. What, exactly, is our strategy?
When we look at the problem: 26 million American adults without the ID they need to get jobs, housing, medical care, and more, it can feel insurmountable. How do you help 26 million people get anything, much less something that we have already demonstrated is pretty tough to get? Our 501c3 is helping people day to day but it would take centuries to help 26 million people get IDs one by one. We need a bigger solution.
That’s why you’re reading this email.
We realized that, as vital as our day to day grassroots efforts are to helping people on the ground get the IDs they need right now, we needed a different approach. We need to change things on a grander scale. So we started Project ID Action Fund to do just that. We are tackling the issue on a policy level. With the stroke of a pen, a legislator can affect thousands or even millions of people overnight. To solve the problem, we have to change the laws.
We’re approaching this in three ways:
1. Endorsing pro-ID candidates who, when elected, will work with us to change ID laws across the country. Over the next few weeks you’ll hear about how well that is working for us with some really exciting legislation.
2. Create a free federal ID- last year we introduced the IDs for an Inclusive Democracy Act ([link removed]) to do just that. We are working tirelessly to get our bill passed in Congress so that we can solve the ID problem once and for all.
3. Educate Americans about the ID crisis so we can work together to change ID policy across the country. We are doing that by writing books ([link removed]) , telling ID stories in the press, partnering with researchers and other organizations, writing white papers, and doing whatever we can to get the word out that we have a crisis on our hands that we must, and can, solve.
We have accomplished a lot in a very small amount of time and I have no doubt that in short time we will see new laws and policies across the country to make IDs accessible to all. But to do that, we need your help. We need a bigger team and more resources and only you can help us get there.
