President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act — that SEEC Members pushed through Congress last year — is an incredible jumping-off point for this 100% clean energy goal. But if we’re going to get this done by 2035, we can’t just bank on federal action.

John,

AInstead of the usual doom and gloom, today, we’re hitting your inbox with exciting news: We can still meet President Biden’s 100% clean energy goal by 2035.

That’s right — in just 12 years, we can eliminate carbon pollution from America’s power sector. This is only possible because of the historic investments we made in the Inflation Reduction Act. That bill will get us most of the way there, but we need to build on that success to fully decarbonize the grid. Here’s how we can make it happen:

  • The Environmental Protection Agency needs to enact strong carbon pollution standards for new and existing power plants.
  • State and federal policymakers need to take additional steps to accelerate the deployment of clean energy nationwide, including state-set targets for achieving total clean energy within their own borders, conducting long-term planning for state utility transmission lines to carry clean energy into urban centers, and allowing clean energy projects to connect to state and regional grids.
  • We need to support leaders like our SEEC members in their fight to secure President Biden’s clean energy goals.

John, every single Republican in Congress voted against President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. Members of the GOP would rather play party politics than reduce our nation’s climate footprint — and we have to hold them accountable.

Our SEEC members go to work every day to fight for our climate in Washington. From supporting President Biden’s pro-climate agenda to providing an all-systems approach to tackling the climate crisis, they’re making sure we stay on track to meet our clean energy goal.

Cleaning up our power sector shouldn’t be political — it’s imperative to protecting our climate, improving public health, and securing environmental justice. But now that our SEEC members are up against a GOP House majority that has — and will continue to — vote no on climate policy, we need your help. Will you step up and sustain SEEC PAC’s fight to achieve 100% clean energy by 2035?

John, we know this is an extremely ambitious goal. But we have a clear path forward, and we have to continue holding our GOP lawmakers accountable for stalling this necessary progress.

Thank you for joining us in this fight.
