“Given the political implications of redistricting, it is no surprise that there is a high volume of litigation that ensues over how district lines are drawn,” Marc writes in his latest. “A recent report from Democracy Docket reveals just how pervasive and important that litigation is to voters and control of Congress.” 

Here are some recent updates.

• Yesterday, Idaho Republicans introduced a bill to remove student ID cards from a list of acceptable photo IDs to vote, even though the list does include concealed carry permits. The bill would also remove the option to submit a personal affidavit if voters lack accepted ID.

• Last week, the Republican-controlled Virginia House of Delegates passed two bills that would ban drop boxes in the state and cut the early in-person voting period by 31 days. Both bills are unlikely to pass the Democratic-controlled state Senate.

Here are some updates from the past few days.

• We will publish our February Litigation Look Ahead tomorrow on Democracy Docket, just in time for a busy day in court. Tomorrow, Feb. 1, there will be:

• • Oral argument before the Kansas Supreme Court in a lawsuit challenging two Kansas voter suppression laws. 

• • A conference in the Arizona Court of Appeals where the judges will meet privately to decide the merits of Kari Lake’s appeal of her election contest. A decision will be released at a later date.

• • A hearing before a federal court in Georgia in a lawsuit alleging a right-wing group engaged in voter intimidation before the 2021 U.S. Senate runoffs in Georgia. Learn more about the history of the lawsuit here.
