Dear John,
Today, U.S. Congresswoman Betty McCollum reintroduced a bill in Congress to permanently protect the Boundary Waters! The Boundary Waters Wilderness Protection and Pollution Prevention Act will remove the threat of sulfide-ore copper mining from the watershed of the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs National Park permanently, so all generations to come can enjoy these landscapes forever. Last week, you likely heard that the U.S. Department of the Interior announced historic 20-year protections for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Voyageurs National Park from sulfide-ore copper mining.
Thanks to the decision, this embattled wilderness finally has a semblance of the protections it deserves, but the Boundary Waters is not just a 20-year Wilderness. Rep. McCollum’s bill reintroduced today will get the BWCA the permanent protections it deserves. |
