At the start of this Congress, 19 of my conservative colleagues and I fought for historic change that transformed the way in which this institution works for the American people. One of our major victories was securing an open amendment process, which was on full display last week.
For the first time in seven years, Members — Republicans and Democrats alike — introduced and debated amendments on the House floor. Under this transparent process, I successfully passed my first amendment. In case you missed it, my amendment to the Strategic Production Response Act requires the Biden Administration to submit its plan to refill our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to Congress before the next drawdown occurs, providing essential oversight and accountability for the Administration’s handling of our emergency resources. Please click the video below to watch my full remarks on this critical and commonsense amendment.

As you know, I was selected to serve on the Appropriations Committee for the 118th Congress. Last week, Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-TX) announced our subcommittee assignments, and I’m excited to share that I will serve on: - Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, which oversees funding for the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
- Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, which appropriates funding for the Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Education.
- Legislative Branch Subcommittee, which manages funding for the House of Representatives, the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress, and other legislative branch functions.
I’m honored to serve on the Appropriations Committee and these subcommittees this Congress, and I look forward to joining the fight in passing conservative appropriations bills by reducing senseless spending and practicing fiscal restraint.

In viral undercover videos conducted by Project Veritas, a Pfizer Director openly admitted that the Big Pharma giant is conducting dangerous research for profit. Jordon Trishton Walker, who serves as Pfizer’s Director of Research and Development for Strategic Operations and mRNA Scientific Planning, claimed the company is exploring “mutating” COVID-19 to make new vaccines, adding that the virus will be a “cash cow” for a long time. In other words, Pfizer is conducting gain-of-function research to boost profits.
While Pfizer attempted to refute these claims, their statement instead appeared to confirm that the company is engaged in engineering new versions of COVID-19. Folks, this is incredibly alarming and deserves swift congressional oversight. Americans deserve to know the truth, which is exactly what House Republicans will uncover by conducting thorough investigations. I look forward to working with my colleagues to probe Pfizer’s reckless research practices and deliver much-needed accountability to the American people.

Rep. Clyde Meets with Running 4 Heroes Advocate Andrew Collison
|
As you may know, Running 4 Heroes was founded in 2019 by 10-year-old Zechariah Cartledge to raise awareness and funding for fallen First Responders. Participants run a mile for every First Responder who makes the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty to honor their selfless service. The non-profit funds numerous programs, including the Injured First Responder Grant Program, which donates a minimum of $10,000 each month to a First Responder injured in the line of duty. As of October of last year, Running 4 Heroes has awarded over $347,000 in these grants.
I recently met with Andrew Collison, a Running 4 Heroes participant and advocate from the Ninth District, to learn more about the non-profit. We discussed our shared goal of supporting our First Responders, including his efforts to raise money through Running 4 Heroes and my work in Congress to ensure these heroes receive the resources they need. The Ninth is incredibly blessed to have young leaders like Andrew fighting for the men and women who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.

Last week, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) changed the rules for the possession of NFA firearms through its eForms FAQ page. The question and answer read:
Q. If I am the registered owner of a NFA item, can someone else shoot my item in my presence?
A: No. Only Responsible Person(s) listed on the approved registration may have physical or constructive possession of the NFA item.
In other words, your spouse, family member, or friend would no longer be able to use your NFA firearm, even in your presence. After swift and warranted backlash, the ATF removed this incorrect answer from its eForms page, but these unelected anti-gun bureaucrats must be held accountable. The agency does not have the power to make sweeping and radical changes; only Congress has the authority to make laws. Please know that on behalf of all law-abiding gun owners, I will be leading the fight in demanding answers from the ATF on this troubling matter.

According to a new NBC poll, 71% of Americans believe our nation is on the wrong track. This week, House Republicans will continue working toward getting our country back on course.
A few of the legislative initiatives that we expect to bring to the House floor this week take aim at returning to normalcy post-COVID, including:
- The Freedom for Health Care Workers Act: This legislation nullifies the authoritarian vaccine mandate for health care workers in federally-funded medical facilities. Now that the pandemic is over, it’s time to finally end these unconstitutional and unscientific mandates.
- The Pandemic is Over Act: Despite claiming that “the pandemic is over,” President Biden continues to extend the Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19. The Pandemic is Over Act repeals this PHE once and for all.
- SHOW UP Act of 2023: For far too long, federal workers have enjoyed unchecked remote work at the expense of productivity and taxpayer dollars — even while millions of Americans have returned to the office. This legislation ends the Biden Administration’s irresponsible COVID-19 telework policies and requires federal agencies to submit studies to Congress detailing how pandemic-era telework impacted their missions.
