I’m Ashbey Beasley, a mass shooting survivor and the mother of a mass shooting survivor. I know what it feels like to run from the bullets of an AR-15. That’s why I’m fighting for a federal assault weapons ban -- so no one else ever has to know what that feels like. Will you join our fight to ban assault weapons by chipping in $15 before midnight? >>
My son and I ran for our lives when a gunman opened fire at our hometown’s Independence Day parade six months ago.
I’ll never forget hearing my son screaming “what’s happening!”
He was so scared that his body gave out. He laid on the ground and begged not to die.
I convinced him to get up and keep running.
Luckily we weren’t injured but I will never forget that day -- and neither will my son.
Seven people were murdered that day in Highland Park, IL, gunned down by a man with an AR-15 style weapon.
In less than 50 seconds, he shot off 83 rounds that ripped through glass, concrete, bricks, flesh, and bone.
Now, I’m fighting to ban assault weapons nationwide to make sure no one has to experience what my son and I did.
Earlier this month, Illinois made history and passed an assault weapons ban. I’m so proud that the hard work of countless activists has finally paid off.
But we can’t stop until assault weapons are banned in all 50 states of our country.
Which is why BAWN and I are committed to holding our Senators’ feet to the fire so they’ll commit to reinstating the federal assault weapons ban. And after 51 mass shootings in just the first 4 weeks of the year, there’s no time to waste. We’re counting on 431 supporters to help us rally a massive response to demand Leader Schumer and our senators urgently support a vote for the federal assault weapons ban. Will you chip in $15 before midnight to make sure our voices are heard? >>
We know the road to reinstating a federal assault weapons ban won’t be easy.
The Brady background checks took seven years, six votes, and three presidents to finally pass.
But knowing now how many lives this crucial piece of legislation has saved, can you imagine if they had waited to put it up for a vote until they knew it would pass? We would likely still be waiting.
We need our senators to vote on the assault weapons ban now for all the victims and survivors of mass shootings…
… for Eduardo Uvaldo, who was gunned down in front of his 6 year old grandson at my hometown 4th of July parade.
… for Uziyah Garcia and Jackie Cazares, who were killed in Uvalde TX.
… for Jessi, whose parents were awoken by a call to tell them their beloved daughter was killed in a movie theater in Aurora CO.
… for Alex Schachter, who was sitting in class when his murderer shot and killed him with an assault weapon that he fired through a closed door at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland Florida.
The majority of Americans support a ban on assault weapons and we won’t stop fighting until these weapons of war are off our streets.
Our country has been broken by the senseless killing of its citizens with weapons of war. We know how to fix it. Let’s start today by pressuring Leader Schumer to put the assault weapon ban bill up for a vote before another life is taken and another community is forever changed. We need 431 supporters to join our fight to ban assault weapons right now. Can we count on you? >>
Thanks for your help,
