JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Over the last week and a half, we have borne witness to a relentless cycle of tragedies. Back-to-back mass shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay targeted predominantly Asian American communities at a time when our AAPI neighbors have increasingly been the target of racism and hate-fueled violence. Mass shootings in Des Moines, IA and Yakima, WA barely broke through the news cycle and we know dozens of others didn’t make it to our newsfeeds at all. And then we endured footage of Memphis police brutally ending Tyre Nichols’ life. In the face of this injustice, we recommit to fighting for the safer, more equitable future we all deserve.

LEGISLATIVE SESSION HQ
Washington’s 2023 Legislative Session began on January 9th and we hit the ground running. We're fighting to ban the sale of assault weapons, require a permit, waiting period and safety training to purchase guns, and more. Bookmark our Session HQ page to stay up-to-date on all the latest happenings in Olympia.

BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS
There have already been more mass shootings than days in 2023. Assault weapons are the weapon of choice for mass shooters because they are designed to inflict maximum damage. Join us in honoring all victims of gun violence with action. Urge your elected leaders to reinstate the federal assault weapons ban.

HONORING MLK JR.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a model of courage and perseverance in the face of cruel indignity. His legacy reminds us that we have faced unthinkable challenges before and emerged as a better country. It is our responsibility to follow Dr. King’s example and work tirelessly, as he did, for a safer, more just future.
