Defund the War

An Act of War

Last week, the President unilaterally escalated the conflict in the Middle East, by assassinating an Iranian warlord. Worse, it seems like our media is echoing the President's lies and his cronies, without context.  For example, Sec. Pompeo, who has been itching for war with Iran for decades now, and has a disturbing history of anti-Islamic bigotry, made the rounds in the media arguing that we actually need to invade Iran. In 2015, Sec. Pompeo said, “There are organizations and networks here in the United States tied to radical Islam in deep and fundamental ways.  They’re not just in places like Libya and Syria and Iraq, but in places like Coldwater, Kansas, and small towns all throughout America.” Sec. Pompeo has also hosted Brigette Gabriel and Frank Gaffney on his radio show. Both of these figures have been named as organizers of anti-Muslim hate by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

In a 2015 summit, Sec. Pompeo said politics was a fight until rapture, an allusion to an end times prophecy in the bible. He has also stated in speeches that “in fact, we know in our hearts that America is a force for good in the world.”  Last year, he even said God may have sent Trump to save Israel from Iran. He claimed Iran was an enemy to Christianity itself. He has also shown bellicosity towards Iran throughout his career.  In June, Sec. Pompeo said US was considering “full range of options for Iran” which is code for war Pompeo also designated the Quds force a terrorist organization, under the AUMF, to provide legal cover for war with Iran
We cannot have someone who blends biblical and religion into a foreign policy of death and destruction. Capitalizing on religious beliefs as justification for a war in the middle east is a foreign policy based on substantive views. Personal religious beliefs should not be guiding foreign policy nor military intervention across the globe.
That's why it's imperative that Congress defunds these wars from those who are subjectively biased against a particular region. It's essential that our Congressional representatives are even keeled, objective, and willing to fight for peace in the world. My Congressional representative voted to authorize the use of military force and has never taken the power to use our military back into the hands of Congress. He voted for the NDAA, which gave Trump the money for a "space force," and fully funded wars. I would never have voted on increasing our already bloated military budget.
The fact is, our nation has had endless money for wars, even intergalactic wars, but never enough to care for the needs of working Americans and the poor. That has to change. We desperately need a paradigm shift in Congress. I'm demanding that we reclaim war powers to Congress, and that we pursue pro-peace international foreign policy, that we defund the war machine substantially so that we can focus on diplomatic solutions first. Now is the time for us to reign in the powers of the executive before we wind up with a catastrophe that we cannot fix.
I pledge to you to, that I will prioritize a peaceful international diplomacy and always be a strong voice for peace.
Over 600 people have invested an average of $33 for our pro-peace campaign. Can you help us get to Congress please?
Sincerely,
