BREAKING: The Washington Post reports that thousands of armed militias and pro-gun extremists plan to descend on the Virginia State Capitol on Monday, threatening "violent insurrection and civil war" over the state's proposed gun safety laws. The FBI has already arrested six Neo-Nazis. The pro-gun group organizing the event has now raised more than $55,000 to bus extremists to Virginia and stop lifesaving gun safety bills.
This is a trend across the country. Our democratic process is under threat and we need to stand up to these extremists.
Please rush $10 or more now to help us protect our gun safety laws and stop pro-gun extremists!

Subject: They’ve recruited armed militias to intimidate us
John –
You might have seen the headlines – gun rights extremists are threatening violence and even "civil war" over new gun safety laws in Virginia. Yesterday, the governor declared a State of Emergency. Brady needs your help to defend against pro-gun extremists and to pass lifesaving gun safety laws in Virginia and across the country. Will you rush $10 to make sure Brady can defend democracy, help protect gun safety laws, and stop pro-gun extremists?
That is why the news about Virginia Citizens Defense League – an extremist group behind “Second Amendment sanctuaries” – is so concerning. They’ve already raised more than $45,000 in seven days – with a goal of $100,000 – and they plan to use every dollar to stop these lifesaving gun safety policies. It is absolutely critical that we stand united for our democracy: Can you make a gift of $10 now to help us raise $50,000 for our emergency response fund before midnight Sunday?
These extremist groups are trying to subvert the rule of law and the will of the people. In fact, they are planning to lobby the State Capitol this Monday – and in a recent newsletter, they bragged about inviting self-described armed militias to provide “security” and that there will be enough “handguns to take over a modern mid-sized country.”
This is political intimidation. We all remember the deadly violence that erupted in Charlottesville under the watch of some of these self-described “militias.” “Whatever their stated intentions,” the city wrote in a lawsuit aimed at ensuring the militias never returned, “these groups terrified local residents and caused attendees to mistake them for authorized military personnel.”
That’s why we’re so alarmed by these developments: the growing number of pro-gun extremists, money flooding in from across America to support them, and armed militias providing “security” – all to stop Virginia and the country from enacting common-sense laws to prevent gun violence. Pro-gun extremists feel emboldened that they can stop the will of the people and thwart the rule of law.
After all our hard work, we can’t let that happen, John. That’s why we’ve set up a response fund to defend against these extremists. We need everyone who believes in the rule of law and common-sense gun violence prevention to rush a donation to make sure we hit our $50,000 goal to protect our democratic process against extremism.
It’s in our hands. We can’t let the extremists win.
