HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL Last Congress, my office helped more than 7,500 constituents cut through bureaucratic red tape and delivered over $141 million to constituents and community organizations including our hospitals and the NYPD. As the 118th Congress begins, I'm renewing my commitment to fight for the residents of Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn and work to restore our economy, secure our border, increase our energy independence, cut wasteful spending to reduce inflation and increase public safety in communities across America. I've been selected to serve on the prestigious House Committee on Ways and Means for the 118th Congress, the oldest committee and chief tax-writing committee in the House. As a member of this committee, I look forward to working with my colleagues to craft policies that get Americans back to work, reign in Washington's bloated spending, unleash our energy independence, bring our supply chains home and push for trade deals that put America first. READ MORE WATCH In one of our first votes of the 118th Congress, House Republicans took bipartisan action to prohibit President Biden from selling our oil reserves to the Communist Chinese Party. Protecting our Strategic Petroleum Reserves and unleashing our full domestic energy potential must be a priority of this Congress to protect our national security and provide economic relief for American families and businesses. Under President Biden, over 4.7 million migrants have been caught illegally crossing our southern border - including over 100 on the terrorist watch list. On top of it, there have been an estimated 1.2 million individuals who have illegally entered that have had zero interaction with our government and law enforcement. I addressed my colleagues on how federal, state and city policies combined have made us less safe at taxpayers’ expense. WATCH IN THE DISTRICT I was proud to congratulate Marta from New Dorp High School for winning this year’s Congressional App Challenge. In today’s day and age, technology can play a critical role in helping our students stay organized and Marta's Student Tracker app would be a fantastic resource for our schools to utilize to help students stay on top of their studies and extracurricular activities after school. Marta is extremely creative and I’m proud to recognize her talent along with her efforts to support her classmates outside the classroom! READ MORE I was proud to have helped secure $500,000 for Eden II Programs to expand its services for autistic adults. For nearly 50 years, Eden II Programs have gone above and beyond to support people with autism by helping them achieve their full potential through a number of educational, residential, and day habilitation programs. As their programs and services continue to grow, access to more space has become a necessity. These funds will ensure adults with autism can continue to receive the high-quality day habilitation services they deserve. Students in grades three through five are encouraged to participate and write essays about what they would do to improve their community if they were President of the United States. CLICK HERE IN THE NEWS Malliotakis: Anti-congestion pricing legislation must prioritize NYC residents One of the leaders in the fight against congestion pricing said that any federal legislation intended to combat the controversial proposal must prioritize protecting New York City residents. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, one of the most outspoken critics of the MTA’s proposed congestion pricing program, is not supporting new legislation from her federal colleagues, claiming it doesn’t do enough to safeguard residents of the Big Apple. ... “Our efforts, particularly on Staten Island, should be to get a complete exemption of the toll. If they’re going to go forward with this, they should not be hitting up residents of New York City. We should not have to pay a fee to drive into another borough in the city in which we live.
