I've only been in Congress for a month, but it's already easy to see that Kevin McCarthy and his extremist allies have little interest in passing legislation to actually improve lives. The last time McCarthy was in the majority, he launched the Benghazi committee to tear down Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers. This time, his new committee is about "Investigating the Investigators” to feed into right-wing, “deep state” conspiracies. It's a sham, and it's all about winning in 2024.
I didn't come to Congress for cheap political stunts. This is about doing the necessary work, so our community and future generations can pursue the American dream. But the fact is that McCarthy and his MAGA allies in Congress are hellbent on unseating me in 2024. Remember, it wasn't long ago that Kevin McCarthy personally visited IL-17 and said defeating me was his "#1 priority." If you think those feelings changed because he failed in November, think again.
Tonight at midnight marks my first end-of-month fundraising deadline as a Member of the U.S. Congress. I know we have a ways to go until 2024, but it’s critical that we build early resources if we want to beat McCarthy's super PAC and keep this seat blue.

Despite some of the challenges, I am eager and excited to work with my colleagues -- on both sides of the aisle -- to deliver meaningful results to the people of IL-17. I spent two decades educating and serving Northwest and Central Illinois as a meteorologist. Now I'm in Congress, and I'm still committed to delivering the truth and focusing my energy on what matters. That's what I was elected to do.
