Expressions such as ‘unity is strength’, ‘many hands make light work’ and ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ all point to the same thing – the power of community. And in this age of global pandemics, global economic crises and global warming, we need to work together globally to address the issues that threaten everyone’s health and wellbeing.

This is why Health Poverty Action works with communities globally to protect people’s health, improve people’s living standards and defend people’s rights. It’s the reason why we build connections with people across the world to advocate for systemic change.

Together, we can challenge the root causes of global poverty and poor health - from economic exploitation to social discrimination. At the same time, we can continue working alongside communities to meet people’s immediate needs and find long-term solutions to key issues - whether training and equipping health workers or helping families develop sustainable sources of food and income.

In Guatemala, our team is largely drawn from the predominantly indigenous Maya communities we serve. This makes it easier to communicate effectively, gain people’s trust and understand the challenges they face.

We are building and strengthening networks of extraordinary people who are working globally to challenge systemic injustice and inequality.
