Serving the Hudson Valley

Team,
Since the whirlwind first week of the new Congress, our team has been hard at work delivering results for the people of the Hudson Valley.
My team and I work tirelessly every single day to show that we’re going to rebuild trust from the bottom up by listening, showing up, and fulfilling the promises of our campaign.
From holding Washington extremists accountable for their harmful policy proposals to working across the aisle to bring funding, jobs, and resources to our communities, rest assured that I’m hard at work for you and your family.
Here's a bit of what our team has been up to: |

Last Sunday, I held my in-district swearing-in ceremony at West Point. Serving my district, which includes West Point, is the honor of my lifetime. |
Earlier this month, I visited the New Windsor School to participate in the Valentines for Veterans program with elementary school students. |
Theo and I participated in the Wreaths Across America event in the Hudson Valley. Together, we remember the fallen, honor those who serve and their families, and begin to teach the next generation the true value of freedom. |
Team Ryan had a blast celebrating our November win in Newburgh. Every person in that room played a part in our success. I am tremendously grateful. |
I joined the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce for their January breakfast meeting to discuss the important issues facing our small business community and the commitment my office has made to working with anyone to secure economic relief. You can read more about my visit in the Daily Freeman. |

|
On the other side of the aisle, Democratic Congressman Pat Ryan of New York, an Army veteran, told Newsweek he found it "deeply concerning" to see calls for "broad brush" spending cuts to national security and defense during a time of increased tensions with Russia and China. |

|
Rep. Pat Ryan took his oath of office at West Point on Sunday, becoming the first West Point graduate to represent the Academy in Congress. The oath was administered by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who nominated Ryan to West Point more than two decades ago. |

I began raising questions and called for an investigation into Central Hudson’s billing practices almost a year ago in my capacity as then County Executive. Since then, the New York State Public Service Commission issued a report alleging wrongdoing by the utility. That step was a resounding victory for the people of the Hudson Valley, who for too long have been the victim of corporate greed and gross incompetence from Central Hudson. Back in December, I called on Central Hudson to finally admit to their mistakes and to immediately begin the work of remedying individual customer grievances. I will not settle until the thousands of customers who have fallen victim to Central Hudson’s reprehensible practices are made whole.
Last week, the Albany Times Union reported that a class action lawsuit has been filed against the utility for breach of contract and several other allegations. This lawsuit is another step toward justice for consumers. I continue, on a daily basis, to hear from constituents about the abhorrent billing practices and lack of customer service by Central Hudson. Thousands of complaints and millions of dollars of customers’ money later, Central Hudson continues to lie about their systems, deny any wrongdoing, and refuse accountability. It’s shameful. I want you to know personally that I will continue working around the clock with state, local, and federal partners to ensure every customer who has been wrongly preyed upon has their voice heard and their issues remedied. While this process continues to play out, you may report Central Hudson issues directly to the New York State Public Service Commission by visiting this link.
We are in this fight together. |
Team, January marks the start of a new year and new priorities, and I’m listening to folks across NY-18 to hear what matters most to them. Thanks so much for following our work — it means a lot to know you’re paying attention and working with me to protect fundamental rights and deliver relief to our Hudson Valley communities. Yours in service, Pat |
