Dear John,

Recent News

I am honored to be representing the 6th Congressional District of Texas in this new year and new Congress. If you are new to District 6, welcome, and if not, welcome back! With re-districting, Texas 6th is now made up of nine counties, including our newest counties: Dallas, Johnson, Hill, Freestone, Anderson, and Cherokee. I am excited to continue building our relationships throughout our old counties and building new ones throughout this Congress.

On January 7th, 2023, I was officially sworn into office by Speaker McCarthy for the 118th Congress. I have also been given my committee assignments. I will serve with Chairman Roger Williams on the Small Business Committee and Chairwoman Kay Granger on the Appropriations Committee. I am very excited to serve on these two committees and look forward to working with these two great fellow Texans.

As we move into February, I am encouraged by the work we have accomplished this month and what we have coming in the upcoming months. We have strong leadership in the House that will deliver on our Commitment to America.

I am excited for this new Congress and optimistic for the months to come!

D.C. Update

My team and I are excited for the opportunity the people of district 6 and the United States have given us by electing a Republican majority. As the 118th Congress kicks off, Republicans will return normal order to our nation’s Capital. That means every bill will go through the committee process, not done in backroom deals. In just the first month I have voted YES on the following legislation-

-H.R. 23 - Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act
               - This bill will rescind the funds made available for the 80,000 new IRS agents passed through the Inflation Reduction Act.

-H.R. 159 – Chance to Compete Act of 2023
-Implements merit-based reforms to the civil service hiring system by replacing degree-based hiring with skills- and competency-based hiring (through technical assessments and examinations).

-H.R. 400 - Investing in Main Street Act of 2023
-Increases the amount that certain banks and savings associations may invest in Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs) from 5 percent to 15 percent, subject to the approval of the appropriate federal banking agency.

I have also Cosponsored the following legislation:

-H.R.287, To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to ensure that local educational agencies applying for certain Federal education funds post the curriculum for elementary and secondary schools online, and for other purposes.

-H.R.29, the Border Safety and Security Act of 2023 To authorize the Secretary of Homeland Security to suspend the entry of illegal immigrants, and for other purposes.

-H.R.279, To amend the Public Health Service Act to prohibit governmental discrimination against certain health care providers with certain objections to abortion.

These are just a few of the legislative issues we have been able to combat in the first month, with much more to come.

January: School Board Recognition Month

A special thanks during this School Board recognition month to our school board members and their dedication to education. This month we celebrate you and your commitment to serving the students and families of TX-06. Thank you to our teachers, staff and administrators who work in conjunction with our school boards to promote education and who work tirelessly every day to teach and support our children.

District Update

Back home in Texas, I have had a wonderful time visiting the parts of our new district. I have traveled to Venus City Hall and over to Alvarado visiting with city and community leaders while also touring fire and police departments. These men and women have found their calling in protecting, serving, and accommodating the needs of their citizens. I am grateful that I have the honor of working with these community leaders. As I continued touring our district, I witnessed a repeated theme of service from county to county and city to city. I also had the opportunity to visit a couple of local businesses that are providing fascinating technology, products, and services to the domestic and global marketplace. Thank you to Vizient, Celanese, WinSystems, and Raytheon for the tour, and I look forward to seeing all that you accomplish. Individuals like these renew my faith and invigorate me with hope that the best is yet to come for Texas and our great nation.

One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to recognize those who are working to make our communities stronger. If you come across a community leader, teacher, business owner, friend, or neighbor, who you feel deserves some recognition, share them with us. Our office loves to recognize them with a letter, certificate, or chance to mention from the House floor.

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

My staff in Washington DC and the District are available as a resource to you.
