If there’s one thing we learned last year, it’s that it pays to plan.
Not only was my last election one of the most competitive House races in the country – it was the MOST expensive in the country. Outside groups poured millions of dollars into this race and necessary costs, like the price of ads, skyrocketed as we got closer to Election Day.
Luckily, we were able to combat the craziness by getting a head start. Way back in 2021, we started raising the resources we knew we were going to need down the road. This way, not only did we enter 2022 with money in the bank, we were able to make smart, early investments in things like voter outreach and registration.
We were also able to buy and air ads significantly earlier than my opponent. This was particularly important, as TV ads are much cheaper if you’re able to place them well in advance. When we’ve got the funds to reserve air time early, it means we’ll be able to afford more of it down the road. So, while ad prices skyrocketing in the last few months of the 2022 election wasn’t ideal, we were able to adapt thanks to the early work we had put in.
