Studying the region’s consistent record of ice core data (a.k.a. “frozen time capsules that allow scientists to reconstruct climate far into the past”), reachers have found clear effects of global warming reaching the remote, high-elevation areas of central-north Greenland.

John,

A new climate change study out of Greenland just released some pretty alarming findings about the Greenland Ice Sheet. The scientists concluded that the projected melting of this ice sheet alone would cause 20 inches of sea level rise by 2100. That’s double what a study found just last year. This sort of melting is getting worse by the day.

Here’s what’s happening: Global warming is spiking in Greenland, one of the world’s coldest places. New research cites the first decade of the 2000s as the warmest 10 years on the country’s record in at least 1,000 years, beating its 20th century average by about 35°F.

John, the research backing up these predictions is rock solid. Studying the region’s consistent record of ice core data (a.k.a. “frozen time capsules that allow scientists to reconstruct climate far into the past”), reachers have found clear effects of global warming reaching the remote, high-elevation areas of central-north Greenland.

Jason Box, Greenland Ice Sheet Expert with the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, weighed in on these alarming findings, noting drastic consequences of the warming temperatures:

“We should be very concerned about North Greenland warming because that region has a dozen sleeping giants in the form of wide tidewater glaciers and an ice stream.”

This new research highlights the dire need for climate advocates like our SEEC Members in Congress. They know that if we don’t take action now, our sea levels will rise dramatically — and our coastal cities will be collateral. Will you join their fight to take bold action against our climate crisis by pitching in any amount today?
