Folks, a few weeks ago, Governor Pritzker signed a law banning assault weapons and sales of high-capacity magazines here in Illinois.

This comes a few months after Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act – the first major federal gun safety law in almost three decades.

It’s been a long time coming, and I want to take a moment to appreciate the dedicated activism that made this victory and other recent victories over gun violence possible.

Republicans in Washington could choose to stand up for national security and turn against the gun lobby’s “guns everywhere” agenda.

But instead of doing their damn jobs, year after year, shooting after shooting, Republicans in Washington copy and paste their “thoughts and prayers” tweets and wait patiently for weapons industry checks to flood their campaign coffers.

We can’t rely on the far right to do what’s right.

The truth is, we already have the tools to end this nightmare – Illinois’ new law is proof of that. I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to end the sale of assault weapons nationwide, but it’s going to take all of our combined strength to get it done.

That’s why I’m asking you to pitch in $20, $25, or whatever you can to support my work and show the NRA and the weapons industry that we have the resources we need to continue this fight to the very end.
