John, last week I announced that I’m running for the U.S. Senate in California in 2024.
Why?
The 117th Congress was the first in over a decade with unified Democratic control and a Democratic president in the White House.
And Senate obstructionists, including some from within our own party, prevented us from taking the necessary steps to end partisan gerrymandering that just handed House control back to Kevin McCarthy and the Republicans.
We could get another chance to fix these problems in two more years. But I’m not going to wait around and see what happens with the most dangerous president in the history of our country on the ballot. I’m going to fight.
I’m running for Senate because we need to push back hard against the Ted Cruzes, the Josh Hawleys, the Lindsey Grahams and all of the Trump enablers who have put our democracy in jeopardy.
And more than that, we need to abolish the filibuster, codify Roe v. Wade, expand the Supreme Court, pass a Constitutional Amendment overturning Citizens United, and protect voting rights if we are to address the deep structural problems within our democracy.
Above all else, we need to make the economy work for all Americans. If our democracy is to survive for the next two hundred years — let alone the next two decades — we have to give everyone the chance to succeed. Not just the wealthy and powerful.
And it’s why I hope you’ll join me today by making a $10 contribution to become a Founding Donor of Schiff 2024.
Thank you,
— Adam
