I am moved and inspired by the compassion Project HOPE supporters have shown for the people of Puerto Rico as a series of earthquakes destroyed buildings and terrified residents. Estimates are already showing that nearly 800 homes were damaged and over 8,000 people are seeking safety in outdoor shelters.
Our teams continued helping people on the ground by:
- Providing crowded shelters with 2,000 hygiene and first aid kits including soap, toothpaste and other supplies to keep families healthy.
- Distributing over 200 cold storage bags for insulin and training people on how to use them.
- Deploying a mobile medical screening team for displaced people staying at a temporary shelter.
- Coordinating with other responders and organizations including supporting the set up of a mobile solar power station.

Project HOPE has delivered over $2 million in medical supplies, including 1,500 vials of insulin, since Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2017.
