I am horrified by the brutal assault on Tyre Nichols and extend my condolences to his family and community.  

Unfair and brutal treatment of citizens cannot be tolerated. I join the calls for accountability and swift justice against those responsible. 

Congress has a responsibility to root out bias and misconduct. We must act now to ensure the bipartisan George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which passed the House last Congress, becomes law. De-escalation should always be implemented, when possible, rather than aggressive postures at routine traffic or citizen encounters.
