A note from Chrissy

I have asked a lot of my friends in Chester and Berks Counties — from donations, to yard signs, to door knocking, and various other ways of support. I am reminded time and again of our community’s willingness to be there for one another as we continue to build a better future that works for us all. Thank you for being there for me. Being officially sworn in for the 118th Congress, I am thrilled to honor your trust in me and to continue to serve and prioritize your needs and those of your families. And indeed, while we have much work still to do, we have so much to celebrate, so I’d like to update you on what we’ve accomplished recently.

Securing over $10 million for important community improvements.
Last year I advocated for federal funding for 14 important community projects across Chester and Berks Counties; I was gratified to learn in late December that our efforts were successful. Recipients include community service organizations, municipal projects, and first responders. These 14 were selected from a larger pool of applicants by an independent nonpartisan review board — I look forward to advocating for our community this way again in 2023!

Implementing military parental leave program for families and businesses.
As a mother, I know just how vital parental leave options are for families. I had my first child serving active duty in the Air Force, and the wait for child care on base was months long. So it is to my delight that the Pentagon announced it is fully implementing my 12 weeks of paid parental leave for all service members and their spouses! I can’t describe how impactful this policy will be to families across the military. This policy ensures that families won’t have to choose between a paycheck and caring for their newborn child. I am genuinely proud of this effort and those who have supported it, including my friend and former colleague in the House, Defense Under Secretary Gil Cisneros.

Protecting our strategic petroleum reserves from our adversaries.
During one of my town halls last year, I was asked why China is permitted to buy oil from our nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR). Great question! As gas prices were going up and President Biden was releasing oil from the SPR in as effort to bring them down, we learned that a Chinese-affiliated company had purchased oil form the SPR. Oil from the SPR should be used for strategic purposes to the benefit of Americans, not to enrich our adversaries. In response, I worked with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to introduce a bill to prevent this from happening again. A similar bill passed the House earlier this month and I will stay on the issue until the loophole is closed.

Meeting the needs of entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Recently, I toured the Made in Coatesville small business incubator. I met with several small business owners to learn more about their needs and the continued economic development of downtown Coatesville. I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it: Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. As someone who grew businesses, I understand the challenges facing entrepreneurs and how critical support can be as they develop and grow. This small business incubator will provide a helping hand, and I look forward to seeing all it will do for the people of Coatesville and our surrounding communities.

As we kick things into gear and drive full steam ahead, I am excited to see what the future holds for our resilient community. I want to ensure we continue this upward trajectory, foster local economic growth, and build on our continued progress. As always, we invite you to call one of our offices or message us through our contact form. Feel free to pass this update to friends of our community so they can keep in touch too, There is work to be done.
