Shoshone District Header

Hello from snowy southwest Wyoming!

Ranger Angelina here - interpretive ranger for the Shoshone District of Wyoming State Parks. I'm here to keep you up-to-date so you're in the know on programs, parks DL, and general exciting stuff we have going on in the Shoshone District. In case you can't tell - I really like WYO Parks and want to make sure you're getting the most from us!

To continue receiving these emails to be the first to know when registrations go live (and scenic and cute animal pics), be sure you're subscribed! Go here [ [link removed] ], enter your email, and be sure to click the "Shoshone District" box!

My kingdom looks something like this. It's not just these 5 sites though! We have satellite sites and do events around the community in spots like Rock Springs as well.

If you've ever thought "man it would be fun to work in parks" I'm here to assure you, it is.

But I'm also here to tell you that it's not just a pipe dream! You *can* work in parks.

Not convinced? Watch this video [ [link removed] ] we made and surely Patrick fly fishing in a pristine river, John's accent, Laurel's beautiful horse ride, and me flipping pancakes will convince you (next weekend at Boysen will have John's accent AND pancakes - but that's already sold out for obvious reasons).

Of note, we'll be hiring seasonal workers and/or camphosts [ [link removed] ] at Sinks Canyon, Seminoe, Bear River, South Pass City [ [link removed] ], and Fort Bridger as well as a district maintenance person [ [link removed] ]!

Last summer I was lucky to be joined by three of my Oklahomies - former volunteers who moved all the way to Wyoming for the summer to work in parks! I know they'd all tell you "do it" (terse like that because they're so convinced and also because they're all pretty quiet).

Here's a link to all the jobs [ [link removed] ]we have to offer! Many have furnished housing provided, most are 40 hours/week April -September (with some flexibility), and all are super scenic except... no wait, yeah, they're all scenic.

Sinks Canyon State Park has teamed up with the Lander Library to bring a series of programs and talks... stay tuned for the program calendar!

We kicked off the year with our "Succ it Friday the 13th" series in January. Rather than Friday the 13th being a bummer or a jinx - let's make it fun with succulent programming!

The Sinks Canyon Friends Group, Sinks Canyon Conservancy, helped put on the event. What's a Friends Group? They work to provide volunteer and financial support to parks! We think they're pretty great - you can find out more here [ [link removed] ].

South Pass City has some really good friends. Like, the kind of friends who bring you a casserole when you're sick. Find out more about the Friends of South Pass City here [ [link removed] ].

What's next? Graphic

Now that we've convinced you we know how to have fun - here's what's next for Lander area/Sinks Canyon.

Pre-registration [ [link removed] ] is online and easy!

You might've heard some hubbub about these fun Women Who Hike campouts. I won't play it down - they're a blast. Adult women (usually all strangers - sometimes a pair of friends or mother/daughter duo) come together over a shared interest of the outdoors. We laugh, eat well, hike, swap fave outdoor product recs, and all-in-all refresh.

Registrations will go live a few months before each event. Being on this newsletter and following us on social media is the best way to stay in the know - the Boysen Campout sold out in under 48 hours.

Wow - I'm actually impressed I didn't bring these two up until the end of the email!

In my previous park system I had a number of non-releasable rehab animals. I saw the impact they made on visitors, watched as folks connected the coyote/beaver/etc. with the ones they kill on their property, saw folks who swore off snakes hold one for the first time, and cleaned up a lot of animal poop. I really missed three out of four of those things and was anxious to create an animal ambassador program in Wyoming.

"What story is more Wyoming than that of the black-footed ferrets? "

Unfamiliar with it? It's a page turner. Here's the short version:

We killed prairie dogs.

Black-footed ferrets eat them almost exclusively.

We thought BFF were extinct :(

A dog brought one to its owners on a ranch in Meteetsee.

About a dozen were found and taken into a captive breeding program :)

Now we have some black-footed ferrets again! :))))

These cuties are domestic ferrets that were dumped by a few owners until we got our hands on them! They'll be used in field trips, visitor center viewing, and other programming to tell the longer version of the black-footed ferret story!

(no they don't have names - how do human parents leave the hospital with a name picked out?!)

Hey - I hope you enjoyed our first newsletter! Until next time follow on instagram @wyo.state.parks, @sinkscanyonsp, @bearriverstatepark, @seminoe.state.park, @southpasscity for even more nerdy commentary and *reels*.

Stay warm!
