Hi John,

My first month in Congress is already coming to a close. January began with a major delay when far-right Republicans stalled our swearing-in with a five-day long battle for Speaker of the House.

It was a complete waste of taxpayer dollars and something our country hasn’t witnessed in more than 100 years. That’s why I introduced the McCARTHY Act, my first bill to prevent members of Congress from being paid until a speaker is elected in the future.

With far-right Republicans in power, I’ve already cast votes to defend New Mexicans’ rights and well-being, voting against a rules package that attacks reproductive rights, Social Security and Medicare, and working families.

I also made my first visit back to the 2nd District, meeting with small businesses and entrepreneurs, veterans, and other constituents. It was a pleasure to meet with New Mexicans across the district and hear from them first-hand.

Now, I’m back in Washington working every day to make progress for the people of NM-02 and the country. I just learned last week that I’ve been assigned to the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Agriculture, and I’m looking forward to focusing on these two issues important to our district.

While I continue to work for you, I hope you can help me with something.

Tomorrow is our campaign’s first fundraising deadline of 2023, and my team tells me we’re still $5,273 short of reaching our goal for the month.
