Can your workplace support Nottingham?s carbon neutral ambition?
cn28
Did you know that the City Council is only responsible for 3% of Nottingham?s carbon dioxide emissions? This means that we need organisations large and small to support us to become a carbon neutral city by 2028.
Understanding how organisations can make the most impact can be confusing, but the City Council?s Carbon Neutral Policy Team are here to help! Join them for a series of webinars to find out why becoming a sustainable organisation is important for the city, discover clear steps you can take, and learn about the support that?s available to help on your organisation?s journey.
The first webinar in the series, What does carbon neutral mean for local organisations?, is at 1-2pm on 28th February.

Active Nottingham leisure centre first in country to be recognised for tackling inequalities
active notts
I?m delighted to announce Active Nottingham?s Ken Martin Leisure Centre has become the first leisure centre in the UK to achieve the Quest Tackling Inequalities in Leisure Standard.
The centre was recognised for working hard to ensure all demographics of the local community are welcome and find the centre accessible, which involves partnering with trusted local organisations, such as housing associations, primary care networks, social prescribing teams and mental health services.
The Sport and Physical Activity team have also been working with the community to help remove any barriers to access through campaigns such as Get Out Get Active, This Girl Can and the Disability Sport Insight and Participation project, which invited people living with a disability to try the facility for free in exchange for honest feedback.
What a fantastic achievement for the team and community at Ken Martin Leisure Centre and Active Nottingham. ?

Local fashion students get off to a flying start
fashanne
If you?re lucky enough to be travelling through East Midlands Airport, please look out for a new photography display showcasing designs from FASHANNE ? Fashion Designers of the Future Awards.
The display shows off the designs created by final year fashion and textile students from East Midlands universities including Nottingham Trent University. I?m particularly pleased to see how FASHANNE draws on Nottingham?s heritage as the historical home of textile and lace industries.
The awards bring our rich history into a new generation connecting young designers with career opportunities and bridging the gap between their design education and employment with fashion brands.

Nottingham leading the way on integrating Clean Air and Net Zero policies
clean air
It is pleasing that a new report holds up Nottingham as a city which is leading the way in integrating climate and clean air policies.
The ?What CANZ be done?? [ [link removed] ] report by UK100 points to Nottingham along with Birmingham, Camden, Hertfordshire and Leeds for our approach to not only integrating Clean Air and Net Zero in our transport plans, but also including our work on the heating and efficiency of buildings.
The report goes on to state that the Government needs to recognise the importance of this sort of joined-up policy making to enable wider progress to take place.
