John, two terrorist attacks in Jerusalem staggered Israel on Friday. The attacks occurred on Shabbat, less than 12 hours apart. We condemn these attacks, which came immediately after the commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
One of these horrific incidents was a vicious attack in which at least seven people were brutally murdered at the Ateret Avraham synagogue in the Neve Ya’akov neighborhood. Additional victims were wounded. The second attack took place only hours later, wounding a father and his son, who was an off-duty IDF officer. This attack was allegedly committed by a 13-year-old assailant.
The casualties of these appalling crimes included elderly people, married couples and innocent passersby. As we continue to witness the intentional escalation of violence and terror in Israel, ADL remains committed to the security of the Jewish state, fighting hate and extremism in all forms, and working for a peaceful future.
Our thoughts remain with the weekend’s victims and their families, and we pray for the swift recovery of the survivors from both attacks.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Greenblatt
CEO and National Director
