Nottingham City Council has partnered with VivaCity, the transport technology company, whose core aim is to transform cities into smarter and more efficient places to live and work, to help transform decision-making and improve journeys in the local area. ?
Across Nottingham, VivaCity is installing 219 sensors with a mix of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), traffic monitoring and Smart Signal Control system capabilities.
These sensors use their Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability to gather accurate, detailed and anonymous data 24/7 on transport modes, traffic flow and travel times, supporting strategic decisions to help enhance the transport network and improve urban infrastructure. The new technology can identify each individual vehicle type, from heavy goods vehicles and coaches to bicycles and pedestrians. As the data is received in real-time, i.e. as it occurs, this will increase the capacity to make rapid decisions to keep traffic moving freely around Nottingham.

Nottingham City Council?s UK-first wireless electric taxi charging trial is wrapping up this week, with the wireless charging infrastructure being removed from Trent Street.?The space that was used for the WiCET trail will return to a normal taxi rank from Wednesday 1st February.?
The rank has seen a lot of use since the trial began four months ago at the end of September, with almost 1,000 charging events in that time.?Feedback from taxi drivers has been positive, with many appreciating the convenience and time-saving aspects of wireless charging.
Wireless charging enabled vehicles were available for loan on a free trial to licenced taxi drivers to experience the technology first-hand. The council and its project partners closely monitored how well the wireless charging worked during the trial, to give feedback and learnings to Government to help shape future regulation and delivery of wireless charging projects.?
