Hi, it's Senator Tim Scott, and the picture above is of my grandfather, Artis Ware.
My grandfather grew up a poor South Carolina cotton farmer in the Great Depression. Yet he lived long enough to see his grandson become the first African American elected to the U.S. House and Senate.
He lived long enough to see his wildest dreams become a reality. Our family went from cotton to Congress in one lifetime!
When I was a kid, after my parents split, we moved in with my grandparents. Growing up so close with my grandfather is one of the greatest gifts I’ve been so blessed to receive. He taught me how to put my family first and what it means to achieve your American dream.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that I would not be the first Black senator from South Carolina if it hadn't been for men like Artis Ware.
I am dedicated to protecting and restoring the American Dream, but I won’t be able to do it alone. I’ll need your help.

John- Senator Tim Scott here. Serving the people of South Carolina is the most incredible honor of my life, but none of this would be possible without your support.
I made a promise many years ago that I would do everything possible to restore the American Dream and create opportunities for other kids who grew up like I did-in a single-parent home with a mom who worked two jobs just to put food on the table and keep the lights on.
Only in our great country can the grandson of a cotton picker grow up to serve in both chambers of Congress.
