Ronna McDaniel: "This is my last term as chair”
Fox News: Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel says that after winning an unprecedented in modern times fourth term as chair of the GOP, there won’t be a fifth term in her future. “This is my last term as chair. I’m saying it on Fox News. It’s done,” McDaniel declared Friday. Minutes earlier, McDaniel won the support of 111 committee members who cast ballots in a secret ballot vote for chair, more than the majority of the 168 members needed to secure re-election ( Fox News). Hill: Many in the party cited last November’s midterms as a reason to elect fresh blood, as McDaniel oversaw the RNC through the last three elections. McDaniel, in brief remarks, told RNC committee members that she heard the concerns from those who voiced criticism in the wake of the November elections while also projecting unity within the party ( Hill).

Colorado Baker Lost Appeal in Court Against Couple Suing Him for Refusing to Make a Gender Transition Cake
NBC: The Colorado baker who won a partial U.S. Supreme Court victory after refusing to make a gay couple’s wedding cake because of his Christian faith lost an appeal Thursday in his latest legal fight, involving his rejection of a request for a birthday cake celebrating a gender transition. The Colorado Court of Appeals ruled that that the cake Autumn Scardina requested from Jack Phillips and Masterpiece Cakeshop, which was to be pink with blue frosting, is not a form of speech. It also found that the state law that makes it illegal to refuse to provide services to people based on protected characteristics like race, religion or sexual orientation does not violate business owners’ right to practice or express their religion ( NBC). Alliance Defending Freedom: We live in a country where freedom of speech and religious freedom are protected. Jack Phillips, just like every creative professional, has the right to decline to use his artistic abilities to express messages or celebrate events he disagrees with. For some, it will never be enough to politely agree to disagree about important issues like the meaning of marriage or whether to celebrate a gender transition ( Alliance Defending Freedom).

Rep. Ilhan Omar on Republicans Keeping Her Accountable for Her History of Anti-Semitic Comments
Daily Wire: Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) claimed during an interview broadcast on Sunday that she did not know that she was “trafficking in anti-Semitism” by making alleged anti-Semitic remarks. Omar’s comments on CNN’s “State of the Union” come as she faces the prospect of being removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee over her previous statements and hostility toward Israel. Omar claimed that Republicans wanting to hold her accountable for her previous comments was “politically motivated” ( Daily Wire). Steve Guest: Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar claims on CNN that she was “not aware that the word ‘hypnotized’ was a trope” and “wasn’t aware of the fact that there are tropes about Jews and money.” Give me a break ( Twitter). Hill: “And so these people are OK with Islamophobia. They’re OK with trafficking in their own ways in antisemitism. They are not OK with having a Muslim have a voice on that committee,” Omar said ( Hill).

Utah Senate Passes Bill Banning Gender-Affirming Care for Minors
NBC: Utah is likely to become the first state to ban gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors this year. The Utah Senate approved a bill Friday that would bar minors from receiving gender-affirming surgeries and place an indefinite moratorium on their access to puberty blockers and hormone therapy. The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Spencer Cox, who became the second Republican governor last year to veto a bill that bars transgender students from playing girls’ sports ( NBC). Daily Wire: If approved by the governor, the bill will immediately go into effect. However, it would not stop teens already on puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones from continuing their current procedures ( Daily Wire).

Palestinian Terrorist Opens Fire Outside Israeli Synagogue on International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Associated Press: A Palestinian gunman opened fire outside an east Jerusalem synagogue Friday night, killing seven people, including a 70-year-old woman, and wounding three others before he was shot and killed by police, officials said. It was the deadliest attack on Israelis in years and raised the likelihood of more bloodshed. The attack, which occurred as residents were observing the Jewish sabbath, came a day after an Israeli military raid killed nine Palestinians in the West Bank ( Associated Press). US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides: Horrific act of violence at a Jerusalem synagogue on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. I am shocked and disgusted at this heinous terrorist attack on innocent people, including children. Praying for all of the victims and their loved ones ( Twitter). Aviva Klompas: Sickening. The mother of the terrorist who murdered 7 Jews is celebrating her murderer son by handing out sweets in the streets ( Twitter).

Ukraine Immediately Asks for F-16 Jets After Securing American Tanks
Fox News: Ukrainian officials have renewed calls for the United States and Germany to supply them with fighter jets in their ongoing fight with Russia, after the two Western allies changed their decision on supplying tanks. The U.S. and Germany previously said they would not send over the armored fighting vehicles but reversed the decision after further negotiations, ultimately agreeing to send more than 30 Abrams M1 tanks and 14 Leopard 2 tanks, respectively. Ukrainian officials are now engaged in “fast-track” talks for long-range missiles and military aircraft, a top Ukrainian presidential aide said Saturday ( Fox News). Reuters: Ukraine said on Friday it would take its pilots about half a year to train for combat in Western fighter jets such as U.S. F-16s ( Reuters).

Urban Cities on Edge in Wake of Tyre Nichols’ Video Release
Daily Mail: Massive protests took place across the country Friday night following the release of the Tyre Nichols bodycam footage ( Daily Mail). CNN: Since Nichols’ death, the backlash has been relatively swift. The five Memphis officers involved in the beating – who are also Black – were fired and charged with murder and kidnapping in Nichols’ death. The unit they were part of was disbanded, and state lawmakers representing the Memphis area began planning police reform bills ( CNN). Sebastian Gorka: There’s a reason thugs like this are allowed to be police officers. Because the good LEOs weren’t allowed to do their job and left ( Twitter). Julio Rosas: Looters in the far eastern parts of the city took advantage of police monitoring BLM protesters stopping traffic on the Memphis & Arkansas Bridge for hours to loot multiple stores in brazen smash and grab crimes. Stores hit included an athletic store, a clothing store, and GameStop. Smash and grabs have been plaguing the city for months ( Townhall).

EU, Allies Discussing Oil Price Cap for Russia
Politico: The EU and its rich country allies are taking aim again at Russia’s ability to earn money from its vast oil reserves by moving to limit the price of Moscow’s refined oil products. The bloc is proposing that G7 allies cap the price of Russian diesel at $100 a barrel and set a separate cap of $45 for other cheaper oil products. The EU wants to bring in the measure on February 5 — the same date as its embargo on buying Russian oil products goes into effect ( Politico). Bloomberg: Companies would only be able to access key EU services — such as shipping and insurance — if they comply with the cap and purchase the affected products below the threshold ( Bloomberg).

Twitter Files Reveal How Media, Lawmakers Were Influenced by Fake Russian
Daily Wire: The latest edition of the Twitter Files from investigative journalist Matt Taibbi revealed that media outlets, academics, and policymakers who cited an initiative meant to track supposed Russian disinformation fell for a not-so-elaborate scam ( Daily Wire). Fox News: Taibbi did a deep dive into their source, Hamilton 68, a so-called “dashboard” that purportedly monitored Russian bot activity. Taibbi wrote Hamilton 68 “was the source of hundreds if not thousands of mainstream print and TV news stories in the Trump years.” But behind the scenes, Twitter executives trashed Hamilton 68 and deliberated whether they should publicly rebuke ASD ( Fox News). Matt Taibbi: In layman’s terms, the Hamilton 68 barely had any Russians. In fact, apart from a few RT accounts, it’s mostly full of ordinary Americans, Canadians, and British ( Twitter).
