URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Shell’s new plastics factory poses serious public health and safety risks for nearby residents!
When Shell -- the 16th richest corporation in the entire world -- announced that it would be building an enormous petrochemical facility in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, the corporate giant claimed that it would be a “good neighbor” to local residents.
But despite this rhetoric, the multi-billion-dollar business has failed to address serious concerns regarding public health and safety risks resulting from the plant's air, water, noise, and light pollution.
The factory is set to produce up to 3.5 BILLION POUNDS of plastic pellets a year, the manufacturing of which will burn through large quantities of fossil fuels -- releasing toxic pollution into nearby communities, contaminating the water supply, contributing to plastic pollution, and worsening the climate crisis. The public deserves transparency and accountability from Shell, but we need your help standing up to this powerful corporate polluter. Will you take action now?
Shell’s Beaver County plant is one of the largest plastics facilities in the country, and community members have every right to be concerned about the dangerous pollution levels coming from the plant.
Nearby residents are dealing with bright light and noise pollution that runs 24 hours a day. The water pollution could not only contaminate public drinking water but also cold-water fish habitats. Air pollution alone could lead to serious respiratory and cardiovascular problems. Not to mention the negative impacts fossil fuel emissions have on the environment.
AND just two weeks after opening, the factory already MALFUNCTIONED, spewing white foam and black smoke into the surrounding community. The state’s Dept. of Environmental Protection has even had to issue a violation to Shell after the massive plant exceeded its air permit limits two months in a row.
