OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates Reacts to New Video of Tyre Nichols’ Death by Law Enforcement
Washington, D.C. — OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates released the following statement in the wake of another death by police brutality in Memphis, TN.
We are deeply angered and disgusted by the brutal death of Tyre Nichols by the senseless actions of the Memphis Police Department. Law enforcement is meant to protect our communities, not cause deep-seated fear of such egregious actions. The continued murders of our Black and Brown siblings at the hands of police proves that there are systemic problems that our elected officials must address.
The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community also faces police brutality - these issues affect all of us. We cannot let our people continue to suffer such reckless and blatantly inhumane deaths. We look forward to being part of the conversation on meaningful reform and stand in solidarity with the Black and Brown community.
