Hey - thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. It’s pretty great when this whole “creating a dialogue” thing works out!
(If you haven’t filled out the survey I sent you last week, I’d still love to hear your thoughts! Click here - it’ll take about 60 seconds.)
But seriously: creating a dialogue is part of the goal of these emails... The last thing your inbox needs is a droning monologue on a topic you don’t care about (or worse, an appeal that makes you roll your eyes at the entire concept of political communication).
I asked what you cared about most. Here’s what you said:
— 75% of you said tackling the climate crisis is critical, and I couldn’t agree more. It’s a big fight - actually existential - and that’s exactly why we can’t let up on it. My, and future generations, will have to live with the consequences. The Inflation Reduction Act was our country’s biggest investment in addressing climate change ever, and we have to build on that work this year.
— More than half of you flagged that reproductive freedom and abortion rights are important to you. I hear you. As a young woman, this is a huge priority for me, too, and I am not taking my foot off the gas when it comes to restoring and expanding access to abortion care. I’m also going to keep pushing for policies that keep people safe in our post-Roe reality. This past week, I introduced the SAFER Health Act, which expands HIPAA to make sure doctors can’t share health information about abortion or pregnancy loss without consent.
— And a lot of you mentioned rethinking the social safety net, protecting LBBTQ+ rights, and rebuilding trust in our institutions - issues that are not only top of mind for me, but also critical for Congress to focus on if we want to truly represent and support the people we’ve been elected to serve.
I really appreciate your willingness to answer my questions, and I look forward to sharing more information about the priorities you’ve highlighted over the course of the year.
Your feedback is an important part of this job - so thanks again.
