John -- It started with my eighth grade science teacher, Mr. Cunningham. That's when I realized public school teachers had the ability to not only touch lives, but change them completely -- just like Mr. Cunningham did when he introduced me to the love of science. Back then, Alaska's teachers were some of the highest paid in the country. Now, we are consistently losing great teachers to the Lower 48, where the cost of living is lower, and salaries and benefits are better. Unlike Mike Dunleavy, Dan Sullivan, and Mitch McConnell who kowtow to Betsy DeVos and special interests, I'll put students, teachers, and parents first. I'll fight for public education. I am proud to be a product of Alaska's public schools. But, I'm not proud of the way we treat our public school teachers here. Public school gave so much to me and my family. It's the building block of our state's economy. It's time we give back to a system that gives us, and our children, everything.
