My colleagues and I are fighting for the future of abortion access.
Friend,
This year, we should be celebrating 50 years of Roe v. Wade — the landmark legislation that guaranteed abortion access at the federal level. Instead, the Dobbs decision dismantled abortion access across the country, and we’re in the fight of our lifetime to protect reproductive rights.
So as I reflect on 50 years since Roe and the fight for our reproductive freedom, I wanted to share how proud I am of the work my fellow Democratic AGs and I are doing day-in and day-out to protect abortion access. This past year, Michigan AG Dana Nessel challenged her state's archaic abortion ban and advocated for abortion rights to be enshrined in the state’s constitution. Wisconsin AG Josh Kaul filed a lawsuit challenging his state’s 1849 abortion ban. Dem AGs are steadfast in protecting our rights. We are all working hard on this issue because we believe that everyone should have the freedom to control their own lives and futures.
Dem AGs don’t just defend abortion access, we’re proactive in our efforts. California AG Rob Bonta has strengthened his state's abortion protections by clarifying potentially harmful laws and has taken steps to ensure reproductive health care protections for all residents — including incarcerated individuals. Connecticut AG William Tong and I have both launched phone helplines to inform those with questions about their reproductive rights or seeking legal information and resources about accessing abortion in our home states. These stories are not unique among Dem AGs — all of my colleagues work tirelessly to protect the reproductive freedom of their constituents.
Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and we can't stop now – will you chip in today?
