On Thursday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced his legislative proposal to maintain and further improve Florida’s 50-year record low crime rate and cement Florida as the law-and-order state. The proposed reforms would:
▪️ Reject the elimination of cash bail
▪️ Increase penalties for fentanyl and other drug-related crimes
▪️ Prevent the early release of sex criminals
▪️ Strengthen penalties for child rapists, so that the minimum sentence for this evil crime would be life in prison without parole
The Governor’s proposals will protect Floridians from deadly drugs like fentanyl, keep dangerous criminals off the streets, and combat human smuggling. As Governor DeSantis said, “No city in Florida will become a get-out-of-jail-free zone.”
These commonsense legislative proposals build on the law-and-order initiatives Governor DeSantis has already prioritized to make our communities safer. In his first term, the Governor signed Florida’s landmark anti-rioting law, spearheaded the strongest law enforcement recruitment and support initiative in the nation, and enacted tougher penalties for opioid dealers and drug traffickers. That’s why Florida’s crime rate is now at a 50-year low, even as crime rises in other parts of the country.

Governor DeSantis also unveiled his plan to empower Florida educators by:
▪️ Securing a $1 billion increase in teacher pay
▪️ Implementing a Teacher’s Bill of Rights
▪️ Enacting paycheck protection and other reforms to school unions
▪️ Term limiting school board members to eight years
