Dear John,
The Commissioner of the Social Security Administration recently reached out to me to share his growing concern about a serious and increasingly pervasive problems - Social Security phone scams.
These scammers will pretend they're from Social Security and the number on caller ID may even LOOK like an official government number. But, it's not!
The caller may say there is a problem with your Social Security account or that you must pay a fine using pre-paid debit cards, retail gift cards, wire transfers or cash.
These calls are NOT from the Social Security Administration. I’ve attached a flyer with some information you or a loved one may find helpful in protecting yourself.
Remember, the Social Security Administration will NEVER threaten you.
If you do receive a suspicious call, hang up right away and never give your personal information. Report the scam at oig.ssa.gov/.
Best-
Don
