Like you, I’m heartbroken. And I’m sick of having my heart broken again, and again.

Two shootings in just three days claiming the lives of 18 Californians.

It’s intolerable, and the people of California - and everyone in America - deserve better.

We deserve to be able to celebrate, go to school, see our families, and live our lives without the looming threat of gun violence.

This cannot be accepted as routine.

Last year, we passed the first federal gun-violence prevention legislation in 30 years.

But I want to be honest with you, and the millions of Americans demanding Congress take additional action, and tell you exactly why more hasn’t been done to prevent more senseless violence and death.

Republicans in Congress continue to value the profits of the gun industry over our lives.

Now, that does not mean there is nothing we can do.

I’m working with my colleagues in the Senate to pass new legislation to ban assault rifles and expand background checks, and I’m working hard as the DSCC vice-chair to replace Republicans beholden to the gun industry’s money with people willing to stand up and do what is right.

The status quo cannot continue — we have got to build on the progress we were able to make last year and pass legislation to make our communities safe from the epidemic of gun violence.

The safety of our friends, our families, and our communities depend on it.
