John,
We learned last week that Rashida is headed back to the Financial Services Committee where, throughout her first two terms in Congress, she has held Big Banks, Wall Street, and billionaire bullies accountable―and will continue to do so now.
During the last session of Congress, Rashida questioned billionaire CEO of Citadel LLC Ken Griffin, whose firm is now the wealthiest hedge fund in the U.S. The firm uses high-frequency trading practices, which put the retirements and livelihoods of everyday people in jeopardy.1
Griffin, who is a longtime Republican mega-donor, has bankrolled the campaigns of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott. But Griffin doesn’t just use his wealth to buy candidates. He also spent $54 million to defeat a state ballot measure that saves him $51 million a year in taxes.2
Pitch in today to have Rashida’s back as she takes on billionaire bullies and fights for the rights of everyday people.
Rashida has also used her role on this critical committee to fight modern day redlining. Rashida has introduced the Prohibit Auto Insurance Discrimination (PAID) Act to fight back against an industry rife with systemic racism.
According to the Consumer Federation of America, state-mandated auto insurance is more expensive for Black drivers than white drivers because insurance companies use socio-economic factors such as education, occupation, employment status, credit scores, zip codes, homeownership, and more in determining car insurance rates rather than driving history.
Auto insurance discrimination on the basis of non-driving factors allows auto insurers to price gouge Black drivers, forcing many to choose between state-mandated auto insurance and putting food on the table.
Pitch in today to support Rashida’s fight to end modern day redlining and fight back against systemic racism in the auto insurance industry.
Rashida has also taken on Wall Street banks that fund fossil fuel projects, introducing the Fossil Free Finance Act, which would require the Federal Reserve to prohibit banks from financing new or expanded fossil fuel projects.
Rashida has passed legislation that would remove medically necessary debt from credit reports, because undergoing a medically necessary procedure shouldn’t impact someone’s credit score. Credit scores affect people's ability to secure housing, employment, transportation and more. 20% of families are weighed down by medical debt and it’s one of the major reasons people file for bankruptcy.
Can you pitch in today to have Rashida’s back as she fights for low-wealth families and for an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few?
