Green, MD (R-TN-07) this week announced the Republican subcommittee leadership and membership for the 118th Congress. Andrew is thrilled and honored to have been selected to serve as Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee and to be able to continue the work he started last Congress as Ranking Member of the Subcomittee improving our nation’s cyber preparedness. Cyberattacks are the preeminent threat of our time, impacting every sector of our economy – from the energy sector to financial services. Our foreign adversaries have grown more advanced making cybersecurity the next arena in which we must build out our national defenses. Andrew looks forward to working Chairman Green to ensure our cyber borders are protected and fostering a strong partnership between the public and private sectors in order to face rising threats and strengthen our national cybersecurity posture. ANDREW IN THE NEWS ‘You will create chaos’ – GOP reps blast Kathy Hochul plan for suburban housing " Republican members of Congress say they have had it with Gov. Kathy Hochul’s “radical state takeover” of local government following her controversial proposal to build 800,000 new housing units — even over the objections of local planning boards. The criticism comes in a letter, exclusively obtained by The Post, that reads: “While we all understand the need for increasing the availability of housing, especially affordable housing, we cannot support a one-size fits all approach to local zoning. “By forcing unit quotes onto municipalities and by providing little to no investment for critical infrastructure upgrades, you will create chaos,”...Also signing the letter were Reps. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Meeting With Catholic Health Catholic Health recently visited our Patchogue District office for a meeting to discuss the programs they offer and how our team can work together on projects for community outreach, including those to serve families with pediatric care, as well as our veteran community. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Preserving Family History A constituent contacted Andrews office because he had a tape from the1970s of his grandmother recounting her experience from 1884, when she she was 14 years old and traveling from Germany to America, entering through Ellis Island by boat. Our office contacted the Library of Congress who recommend the constituent contact the National Immigration Museum at Ellis Island, which has an oral history project that takes submissions. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Introduces Bill To Expedite Access To Benefits For Those With Metastatic Breast Cancer Long Island has among the highest occurrences of breast cancer in the country which is why this week Andrew introduced his first sponsored bill of the 118th Congress, The Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act. This bill would eliminate waiting periods for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits and Medicare coverage for those with metastatic breast cancer so they can gain immediate access to the health benefits they are eligible to receive. This bill would offer financial relief to patients so they can focus on what's most important, fighting back. Click here to learn more. Andrew's Bill To Help Small Businesses Passes The House This week, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to pass H.R. 400, TheInvesting in Main Street Act of 2023, a bipartisan bill co-led by Andrew and Congresswoman Judy Chu. The bill would increase access to capital for small businesses by amending the Small Business Investment Act of 1958 by increasing the amount that certain banks and savings associations may invest in Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs) from 5 percent to 15 percent. Andrew Helps Introduce Bill To Address Veteran Homelessness This week, Andrew joined with Congresswoman Nikema Williams to introduce the Return Home to Housing Act, bipartisan legislation that addresses veteran homelessness. The Return Home to Housing Act will raise the maximum allowable rate that the Department of Veterans Affairs can reimburse to service providers for supplying transitional housing to homeless veterans. By ensuring they can get adequately reimbursed for their costs, this bill will help housing providers supply more housing to homeless veterans in need. Click here to learn more. Thanks for reading!
