President should be elected by national popular vote Presidents Should be Elected by National Popular Vote Five of our 46 Presidents have come into office without winning the most popular votes nationwide. The National Popular Vote bill will guarantee that the President is the candidate who received the most popular votes in all 50 states and DC. Please send your state legislators an email asking them to pass National Popular Vote in your state. The U.S. Constitution gives each state the exclusive power to decide how its electoral votes are awarded. Fifteen states and the District of Columbia (with 195 electoral votes) have already enacted the National Popular Vote Compact into law. The National Popular Vote bill will take effect when passed by states with an additional 75 electoral votes. The bill has already passed one house of the legislature of 9 states with an additional 88 electoral votes. You can help make this happen by sending your state lawmakers an email asking them to pass National Popular Vote. The National Popular Vote law will guarantee the presidency to the candidate who gets the most votes in all 50 states and DC, apply the one-person-one-vote principle to presidential elections and make every voter equal throughout the United States. give candidates a reason to campaign in all 50 states so that every voter, in every state, will be politically relevant in every presidential election, increase voter turnout, and help ensure the peaceful transfer of power in presidential elections.
